Links to Some of Minna's Many Interests
Organized Music
- Just call me "Union Maid!" Proud member of Local 1000 of the American Federation of Musicians (The Traveling Musicians Union).
- I also enjoy being a member of the Peoples' Music Network for Songs of Freedom and Struggle.
Body Politics and Fat Feminism
- Radiance Magazine was one of my earliest introductions to size acceptance. Theyıve decided to stop publishing the printed version, but have promised to keep the website up, running, and fabulous.
- FAT!SO? is the 'zine for people who don't apologize for their size. Tons and tons of irreverent fun.
- Zaftig. Please be advised, this site is only for folks 18 and over...need I say more?
- Peggy Lutz, fashion designer to the plus-size stars and starlets. She's got my measurements on file so anyone who would like to buy me a new sparkly dress is more than welcome.
Jewishness and Spirituality
- Some excellent starting points for learning about Jewish Renewal, spirituality, and activism are The Shalom Center and Tikkun Magazine.
- Here's how I learned to meditate: Shambhala International
- Hard to categorize, the Sun Magazine is simply one of the most nourishing items to appear in my mailbox each month.
Big Boat Sailing and Environmentalism
- SEAmester provided my introduction to big boat sailing in the form of nine weeks of sail training from Boston to the Dominican Republic. Who knew you could get college credit for this?
- Then I worked with the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater's "Classroom of the Waves."
Some other ships I love:
- Sylvina Beal may not be the prettiest schooner around, but I try to go sailing with my friend Captain Ed once a season or so.
- Brig Niagara on which I spent three very challenging weeks.
- Picton Castle a three-masted circunavigatin' barque which I've only visited while she was docked.
Sociology and Other Scholarly Pursuits
- Know anyone who's bored with high school and ready for college? Send them to Simon's Rock College, my alma mater.
- Northwestern University's sociology department is my current academic home.
- I also serve as a Teaching Consultant at Northwestern's Searle Center for Teaching Excellence.
