Students find Minna's singing sociology presentations
challenging and thought-provoking
"My first reaction to the performance on Thursday was WOW! She really stimulated my thoughts
She took issues and put them into song form. All of the issues she discussed are actually issues that I've heard about or been taught about. However, I never thought a lot about them or maybe understood. I think a song is more interesting to listen to versus speaking. Thus, I paid closer attention to what she was singing about and gave the issues a greater abundance of thought and respect. The way in which she sang the songs
also really made me think."
"[One] song that challenged me was her 'Bathing Suit Song.'
You know that the words are not just memorized lyrics, they are her thoughts, her fears, her sadness. As Minna's audience, we could see her talent, her beauty, and she shared with us something very personal. I guess I don't really know what I felt during this song, or what it makes me feel in retrospect, I just know it challenged me."
"It made me think a lot more than I thought I would. And I thought it was going to be an easy day!"
moving, and inspiring
"I loved every minute of her presentation. She was brilliant, talented, and inspiring."
"There have been very few classes in my life that have kept me talking about and thinking about it for days afterward. The presentation that Minna Bromberg gave really had an impact on me."
"I thought she was great
I could really tell that Minna felt what she was singing
She played and sang with so much passion.
I would love to see her play again, and I hope that she continues to play with the same desire as she does now. If she does, then I am sure she will touch many more lives, than the 100 that I am sure she touched last week."
"'The Bathing Suit Song' really inspired me; in fact I almost wanted to cry
I truly wish there were more songs like the 'Bathing Suit Song.' It really got to the heart and I think if more people heard songs like that one it would make them think and realize there are so many important things in life, not just appearances
I want to say Thank You for providing such a wonderful opportunity to be able to hear someone as wonderful as Minna."
"She sings about issues to which we can all relate
Issues that affect all of us. For a while, while she sings, everything seems alright. Like someone is finally speaking out on issues, saying what they think; and in some small way, with her words and music, the wrongs begin to be righted."
"Minna's musical performance was a gift to my soul. After a very stressful week of not enough sleep and too much reading, Minna's voice and lyrics were rejuvenating and thought provoking. Her voice filled the room and captured my heart. 'The Bathing Suit Song' moved me to tears."
and, of course, rigorously educational.
"At first hearing that a guest singer/speaker would be presenting to our class I was a little skeptical. I wondered how someone could sing about the issues concerning the sociology of gender? However, I was greatly surprised and impressed with Minna Bromberg's performance. I found her voice to be very powerful and her music to be informative and informational."
"She was
very organized. She knew how to relate what she was going to sing about to what we have learned in class. This made it much easier for me, and I am sure for the whole class, to follow along with what was important in the songs."
"Perhaps the most interesting thing about the whole performance was that her songs were truly educational
I wasn't sure what her songs would be like. Little did I know that they would be funny
educational, and that they would be sung so well."
"Educational and fun
an absolute treat!"
